Max Zunino

Max is a writer and director of film and television. He is a graduate of Communications who also studied at the renowned Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba.

His first feature, Los bañistas, which he wrote, directed and produced, obtained the FIPRESCI award at the Festival de Cinéma du Monde Montreal 2014. It was also a nominee at the Ariel Awards for Best First Feature in 2015. It obtained as well the Guerrero prize awarded by the press at the Guadalajara Film Festival in 2014.

While in the making, the film obtained prizes for its’ development at the Guadalajara Film Festival and the Ventana Sur festival in 2013.

Bruma, his second feature, which he also wrote, directed and produced, was shot in Berlin and Mexico City. It won the Guadalajara Construye 10 award and participated at the EFM Berlinale 2017 under the section Visions. It had its’ international premiere under the official selection of the Raindance Film Festival 2017. The film went over to be shown at the Hambug Film Festival, the Guadalajara Film Festival, the San Diego Latin Film Festival, among others. It obtained a Mention at the Mérida Film Festival and an Award for Best Director at the FICCH 2018. It will have its’ commercial run in 2018.

His new feature “Entrevero” made him the winner of a residency in Berlin awarded by Medienboard, Nipkow, Goethe Institut and GIFF. This project also won a grant by the Programa Ibermedia in 2014 and participated at Torino LAb 2015 where it was tutored by  Pawel Pawlikowski (Academy Award winning director). It also participated at the Berlinale Production Market 2015 and won the Gabriel Figueroa Prize for film in the making.

For television he has worked on several series, the most recent one being Tijuana for Story House, where he collaborates as a Headwriter.

As a director, he’s worked on several projects such as Guerra de Ídolos by Fox, El capitán also by Fox and Bienvenida realidad by Sony and Argos.

He founded the agency Room Service where several fiction Tv shows have been written for clients such as Story House, Sony, Fox, Argos, Televisa and Canal 11, among others. Its’ main focus are series.

Max has also given many lectures invited by Berlinale Talents, the Mexican Film Institute, the Goethe Institute, Sorbone University in Paris, Guanajuato International Film Festival and Guadalajara International Film Festival. He’s also served as a jury for public grants and film festivals such as GIFF, Proimágenes Colombia and the Mexican Film Institute.
