Alejandra Márquez

She studied film directing at the Centre d’Estudis Cinematogràfics de Catalunya, in Barcelona. Since then, she was worked as a screenwriter for film and TV.

She has directed documentaries, fictions and commercials. Her short film “5 recuerdos” (2009) was shown in over a hundred film festivals and won over twenty prizes. Her documentary “Mal de tierra” was shown in the Distrital Festival in 2011. “Semana santa”, her first feature, had its’ premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015 and has won prizes in festivals such as the Cabos International Film Festival and the Fribourg International Film Festival. It has also been shown at SXSW Fest and at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

“Nieves”, a work-in-progress for a feature, was awarded with grants from both the Mexican Film Institute and the program “Jovenes creadores”. It was also a participant at the Talent Lab of the Toronto International Film Festival.

She is currently in the post-production stage of her second feature, “Las niñas bien” which was shot in 2017 with the support of EFICINE, a grant awarded by the Mexican Film Institute.
